CS2 Community Maps: Boulder, Fachwerk & Poseidon
Boulder, Poseidon, Fachwerk: Valve's Community Map Experiment, Judged

Community maps have long been an important part of Counter-Strike, but in CS2 Valve has become noticeably more active in bringing Workshop creations directly into official game modes. In 2026, this process can be clearly seen with Boulder, Fachwerk, and Poseidon: these maps did not simply appear in matchmaking, but continue to receive changes from their creators, which Valve then brings into the live game client.
As of late September, there are six community maps available in official CS2 modes. However, they should not be confused with Active Duty or Premier maps: Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter are available in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch, while Poseidon, Debris, and El Dorado are part of Wingman.

How Community Maps Returned to Official Matchmaking
On July 8, alongside the launch of Premier Season 5, Valve carried out another rotation of community maps. Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum were removed from official modes, while Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter were added to Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch. Wingman received Debris and El Dorado. Poseidon, which had already been added on January 21, 2026, remained in the game.
As a result, the current rotation looks like this:
Competitive / Casual / Deathmatch: Boulder, Fachwerk, Shelter
Wingman: Poseidon, Debris, El Dorado
This is an important distinction from Premier. Community maps can be played on official Valve servers, but Boulder and Fachwerk are not currently part of the competitive Active Duty pool used in Premier.
Boulder

Boulder is a classic 5v5 map created by OrelStealth, Roald, morozov, and MadsenFK. It is set around a Greek monastery located on top of a massive rock formation. The map appeared in the Workshop on February 9, 2026, and Valve added it to official modes on July 8.
Boulder is particularly interesting because of how much it continued to change after being integrated into CS2.
In August, the creators significantly reworked parts of the B site: the route through B Heaven was removed, cover positions were changed, one of the paths near the church was closed, mid was adjusted, and additional changes were made around A. In the August 19 update, doors inside B were repositioned, one piece of cover was reduced in size, and a safer position was created on the B Short side. Wallbangs and performance issues were also addressed.
Valve updated Boulder to the latest Community Workshop version on the same day.
Boulder is a good example of the current approach: entering official matchmaking does not mean that a map is “finished.” Its balance continues to develop while being played by a much larger audience.
Fachwerk

Fachwerk is set in a small European town with traditional architecture and wooden façades. It is a full-sized map designed for the classic format and entered the official rotation alongside Boulder and Shelter on July 8. OrelStealth is listed as its creator.
Fachwerk has also received multiple adjustments since entering matchmaking.
On August 10, the creator updated the map: access to the rooftop behind A was simplified, clipping issues were fixed, some gaps around the cafe area were closed, the radar was updated, and several other minor changes were made. Just two days later, on August 12, Valve synchronized the official version of the map with the Workshop build.
In other words, only a few days passed between the creator’s changes and their arrival in the CS2 client.
Poseidon

Poseidon differs from the previous two maps in format. It is primarily designed for 2v2 Wingman and depicts a luxury resort on a Greek island. The map was created by hAgi, and Valve added it to the official game on January 21, 2026, together with Sanctum.
After the July rotation, Sanctum was removed while Poseidon remained and now shares the Wingman pool with Debris and El Dorado.
On August 13, Poseidon’s creator released a new version: the map received an updated bombsite, visibility near Apollo Cafe was improved, and clipping between the Hell and Heaven areas was fixed. On August 19, Valve brought this build into the official version of CS2 alongside the Boulder update.
Poseidon is also notable because it has remained in the official rotation considerably longer than the July newcomers.
What These Updates Show
The main takeaway is that Valve is now using the Community Workshop not only as a source of finished maps. Boulder, Fachwerk, Poseidon, and other community maps continue to be refined after reaching official servers, while Valve periodically synchronizes the game client with newer versions created by their authors.
Boulder alone received several Valve-side updates over the summer, while fresh versions of Fachwerk, Shelter, and Poseidon also arrived in August.
At the same time, it would be premature to call any of them the most successful map. Valve does not publish detailed pick-rate statistics, average match counts, or player distribution data specifically for these community maps in its patch notes. The number of updates therefore shows the level of ongoing support, but does not prove popularity across the entire player base.
How to make a custom map for CS2
Has Valve's Experiment Worked?
For now, the system looks more like a permanent testing ground than an attempt to immediately find the next Mirage or Cache. Maps receive several months of official matchmaking exposure, collect feedback, continue to be refined by their creators, and then some of them eventually make way for new Workshop projects.
For creators, this is a chance to test their maps with an audience that would be impossible to reach through the Workshop alone. For players, it means regularly getting new locations without having to search for community servers or manually subscribe to maps.
Most importantly, the current rotation already includes six community maps at the same time. That shows that user-created maps have once again taken a noticeable place in the official CS2 ecosystem.
If you have not tried Boulder, Fachwerk, or Poseidon yet, you can find them directly in the corresponding official CS2 modes. And if exploring new maps makes you want to add something new to your inventory as well, you can open cases on Farmskins and try to land an interesting drop.
