GTA 6 Launch Checklist: What to Prepare for the November 19 Release
GTA 6 Launch Checklist: What to Prepare for the November 19 Release

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is getting closer, so now is the perfect time to get ready without any last-minute rush. Rockstar is launching GTA 6 on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while digital pre-orders will be available to download in advance.
If you want to hit Vice City in the first minutes after launch, here is a quick GTA 6 launch checklist: when the GTA 6 preload starts, which edition to choose, what to check on your console, and what the limited-edition DualSense controllers have to do with it.

Mark November 12 on Your Calendar: GTA 6 Preload Begins

The first important date before the GTA 6 release is November 12. That is when Rockstar will open preloading for digital pre-orders. The preload is scheduled to begin at midnight local time.
Preloading will be especially useful for GTA 6. Instead of starting the download alongside millions of other players on release day, you can get the main game files ready in advance.
The physical edition works a little differently as well. Instead of a disc, the box will contain a digital download code. These editions will begin shipping and becoming available on November 12, giving buyers time to take advantage of the preload too.
November 12 checklist:
Make sure your pre-order is linked to the correct account.
Start the GTA 6 preload.
Check that your console has enough free storage.
Leave some extra space for potential updates.
Make sure automatic updates are enabled.
Free Up Storage in Advance

One of the easiest ways to ruin launch day is to discover on the evening of November 18 that your console storage is full.
Don't wait until the preload goes live. Check your available storage in advance and remove games you haven't played in a while. If you use an additional SSD on PS5 or an expansion card on Xbox Series X|S, make sure the console recognizes it correctly.
The official GTA 6 file size has not been announced yet. Rockstar has not revealed how much storage the game will require on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Estimates circulating online usually range from around 150 GB to 300 GB, but none of these figures have been officially confirmed, so they should only be treated as a rough guideline. The actual file size will likely become clearer closer to the start of the preload on November 12.
It's best to check the actual GTA 6 installation size directly in your platform's store before the preload begins. That way, you won't have to rely on outdated leaks or unconfirmed numbers.
Standard or Ultimate Edition?

At launch, Rockstar is offering two main versions: the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition. Standard includes the base game, while Ultimate adds a collection of extra content related to vehicles, weapons, clothing, and other elements of Jason and Lucia's adventure. Standard Edition owners will also be able to purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately later.
For most players, the choice is straightforward. If GTA 6 itself is all you need, go with Standard. If you want an expanded selection of additional content from day one, Ultimate is the edition to consider.
There is also a bonus for early buyers. Digital pre-orders and purchases made through November 20 receive the Vintage Vice City Pack, while digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+.
Get Ready for Midnight on November 19

The official GTA 6 release date is November 19, 2026. Rockstar lists the game as launching that day, so before release, check the GTA 6 page on your regional PlayStation Store or Xbox Store to see the local unlock countdown.
Before launch, check three more things: your console's system software, your controller battery, and your internet connection. It might sound basic, but these are exactly the small details that can get in the way of a smooth launch night.
Playing on PS5? There's a Limited-Edition DualSense

Sony has prepared two limited-edition DualSense controllers for GTA 6: the Black Limited Edition and White Limited Edition. Both feature Vice City-inspired designs, including an iridescent finish, palm-themed details, and official GTA VI branding.
Pre-orders for the controllers started on September 10 at 10:00 AM local time in supported regions. The recommended retail price in Europe is €84.99, with the controllers scheduled to launch on November 19. Quantities are limited, and availability varies by country.
You obviously don't need a special DualSense to play GTA 6. But if you were already planning to upgrade your controller or want to add something with a Vice City aesthetic to your collection, the timing couldn't be better.

Final GTA 6 Launch Checklist

The plan is simple: choose your edition, check your account and available storage, start the preload on November 12, and make sure your console and controller are fully ready before November 19.
After that, all that's left is to wait for the gates of Vice City to open.
And while there's still some time before launch, you can bring a little GTA energy into another game. Check out Farmskins' selection of GTA-inspired cases and get into that neon-crime vibe before November 19.
