CS2 HUD Settings Guide: Scale, Colors, Custom Layouts & Pro Setups

CS2 HUD Settings

The HUD in Counter-Strike 2 is the interface that gives you essential information during a match, including health, armor, ammo, radar, inventory, and other elements. Many players leave it almost completely untouched, even though the right CS2 HUD settings can make the interface cleaner, improve radar readability, and reduce unnecessary visual clutter.

In 2026, HUD customization became even more interesting. Valve introduced custom_hud_layout support for scripted maps, giving content creators more options for building custom interfaces. In this guide, we'll cover standard HUD settings, useful console commands, pro player setups, and what custom HUD layouts actually change.

How to Change the HUD in CS2

Basic HUD options are available directly through the Counter-Strike 2 settings menu. For more precise adjustments, however, the developer console is usually more convenient.

To enable it:

  1. Open Settings → Game.

  2. Find Enable Developer Console (~).

  3. Set it to Yes.

  4. Press ~ to open the console.

You can now change individual HUD parameters using console commands and save your preferred settings in a config if necessary.

How to Change HUD Size in CS2

One of the main commands for adjusting your interface is:

hud_scaling

It controls the overall size of HUD elements. For example:

hud_scaling 0.9

A smaller HUD leaves more of the screen unobstructed, while a larger interface can make important information easier to read with your peripheral vision.

There is no universal "pro" value. The ideal scale depends on your resolution, aspect ratio, monitor size, and viewing distance.

You can also adjust the position of HUD elements with:

safezonex

safezoney

These commands control the HUD safe zone horizontally and vertically. Lower values move interface elements closer to the center of the screen. This can be particularly useful on wider displays, where the radar, health, and ammo indicators would otherwise sit farther from your main field of view.

A good starting point is to adjust HUD scale first, then experiment with the safe zone until you can read important information without having to move your eyes too far away from the crosshair.

How to Change HUD Color in CS2

The main command for changing HUD color is:

cl_hud_color

You can select different presets by entering a corresponding value. For example:

cl_hud_color 6

changes the HUD to red, while:

cl_hud_color 9

gives you a green HUD.

CS2 offers a broad selection of HUD color options, including white, bright white, light blue, blue, purple, red, orange, yellow, green, aqua, and pink. There are also dynamic options based on team or player colors.

Some useful examples include:

  • cl_hud_color 3 – Light Blue

  • cl_hud_color 4 – Blue

  • cl_hud_color 5 – Purple

  • cl_hud_color 6 – Red

  • cl_hud_color 7 – Orange

  • cl_hud_color 8 – Yellow

  • cl_hud_color 9 – Green

  • cl_hud_color 10 – Aqua

  • cl_hud_color 11 – Pink

Color is not purely cosmetic. A good HUD color should remain easy to distinguish against different map environments without constantly drawing your attention away from the action.

White and bright white are neutral choices. Red and orange create stronger visual contrast, while light blue, green, and aqua can feel less distracting. Pink and purple are particularly distinctive if you want the HUD to stand out clearly from the environment.

There is no single best HUD color. Try several options in actual matches and choose the one you can read instantly without consciously focusing on it.

Radar Settings Are Part of a Good HUD

Even a perfectly scaled HUD will not help much if your radar shows too little of the map.

Some of the most useful radar commands include:

cl_hud_radar_scale – changes the size of the radar itself;

cl_radar_scale – changes the map zoom inside the radar;

cl_radar_icon_scale_min – adjusts the minimum size of player icons;

cl_radar_rotate – determines whether the radar rotates with your view.

For competitive play, seeing a larger portion of the map is often more valuable than having a highly zoomed-in view of your immediate surroundings.

Information about teammates, spotted enemies, and activity around the opposite bombsite can affect your decisions even when the action is happening far away from your current position.

Can You Hide the HUD in CS2?

Yes. One commonly used command is:

cl_draw_only_deathnotices 1

It hides most of the regular interface while preserving elements such as kill notifications.

This is mainly useful for screenshots, cinematic footage, frag movies, and other content creation. Playing competitive matches without the normal HUD is generally impractical because you lose access to important information.

To restore the standard interface, use:

cl_draw_only_deathnotices 0

What Changed With custom_hud_layout in 2026?

This is where it is important to separate regular player settings from Valve's newer custom HUD system.

In August 2026, CS2 introduced the custom_hud_layout entity. It allows scripted maps to provide their own custom user interfaces.

The system supports elements such as Panel, Label, Image, and Button, while CSS can be used for styling. This gives creators significantly more freedom when designing interfaces for custom modes, training maps, and other Workshop projects.

There is one major limitation, though: custom_hud_layout is not a drag-and-drop HUD editor for Premier or Competitive.

You cannot simply move your health indicator into the middle of the screen or relocate the standard kill feed in a regular matchmaking game.

In other words, traditional CS2 HUD settings and the new custom HUD system solve two very different problems.

What Did the August 26 Update Add?

Valve continued expanding the system shortly after the introduction of custom_hud_layout. The August 26 update expanded the documentation and examples for cs_script_demo, providing more information about creating Panorama-based interfaces for custom maps.

For regular matchmaking players, this did not suddenly transform HUD customization. For map creators, however, it provided an official foundation for interfaces that previously would have been much more difficult to implement.

Valve continued developing the system in subsequent updates, including additional HUD states and improvements to how custom interfaces interact with the standard HUD.

For now, custom_hud_layout is best viewed as a tool for the custom-map ecosystem rather than a replacement for conventional competitive HUD settings.

What HUD Settings Do Pro Players Use?

The easiest way to understand what actually works is to look at real professional player configurations. One thing becomes obvious immediately: there is no universal "pro HUD."

donk uses a HUD Scale of 1 with a pink HUD. His Radar HUD Size is also set to 1, while Radar Map Zoom is 0.70. In other words, one of the world's strongest riflers does not try to make every interface element as small as possible. His setup keeps the HUD highly readable and uses a relatively zoomed-in radar.

m0NESY also uses a HUD Scale of 1, but his HUD is blue. The bigger difference is his radar: Radar HUD Size is 0.91, while Radar Map Zoom is 0.40. That lower zoom value lets him see considerably more of the map at once, which can be useful for quickly processing information from distant areas.

ropz uses a HUD Scale of 1 as well, but chooses Team Color instead of a fixed HUD color. His Radar HUD Size is 1, with Radar Map Zoom at 0.65. Another interesting part of his configuration is safezonex 0.65, which moves side HUD elements noticeably closer to the center of the display.

s1mple provides another example of a relatively traditional setup. His configuration uses HUD Scale 1 with a light-blue HUD. His Radar HUD Size is 1, while Radar Map Zoom is 0.45, giving him a relatively wide view of the map.

These examples demonstrate two important points. First, a tiny HUD is not a requirement for competitive play: all four players use a HUD scale around the standard size.

Second, their radar settings vary much more significantly. m0NESY and s1mple use lower radar zoom values for a broader map view, while donk prefers a more zoomed-in radar.

Their color choices are also very different. donk uses pink, m0NESY uses blue, s1mple uses light blue, and ropz uses Team Color. There clearly isn't one HUD color that gives you a competitive advantage.

Instead of copying an entire pro config blindly, use these setups as starting points. If you want to see more of the map, try radar values closer to m0NESY's setup. If you prefer a larger, more zoomed-in minimap, donk's configuration may feel more comfortable. And if you play at 16:9 and want your HUD closer to your central field of view, experimenting with safezonex like ropz can be worthwhile.

The Best CS2 HUD Settings Are the Ones You Stop Noticing

A properly configured HUD should not constantly demand your attention. Its job is to give you the information you need in a fraction of a second and then let your focus return to the crosshair.

Adjust the overall size with hud_scaling, experiment with safezonex and safezoney, try different cl_hud_color options, and spend some time getting your radar right. Pro player configurations from donk, m0NESY, ropz, and s1mple can provide useful starting points, but the final values should match your own resolution, display, and playstyle.

The new custom_hud_layout system makes custom CS2 maps and modes considerably more flexible, but it does not replace the standard HUD customization available in competitive matches.

Once your HUD is set up exactly how you like it, you can customize the rest of your CS2 experience too – from your crosshair and config to the way your inventory looks. On Farmskins, you can open CS2 cases and explore different skins for your loadout while keeping the rest of your setup tuned exactly the way you want it.
