How Skin Upgrade Works: Odds, Strategy & When to Use It

Skin Upgrade is a mechanic for players who want to exchange cheap, unwanted, or duplicate items for a more valuable skin. If you have skins that you do not plan to keep in your inventory, Upgrade can be an alternative to regular case opening: instead of getting a random result, you choose the item you want to receive yourself.
On Farmskins, Upgrade works simply: you select one or several of your skins, choose the desired item from the available site inventory, and immediately see your chance of success. This makes the mechanic easy to understand even for beginners: before confirming the attempt, you know what you are risking, what item you can receive, and what the probability of success is.

What Is Skin Upgrade in CS2?
Skin Upgrade is a mechanic where a player uses one skin or several skins to try to receive a more expensive item. If the upgrade is successful, your selected items are exchanged for the target skin. If the attempt fails, the used skins or added balance are deducted.
It is important not to confuse Skin Upgrade with the Trade Up Contract inside CS2. Trade Up Contract is Valve’s official system where a player exchanges skins of one rarity for an item of a higher rarity. Skin Upgrade on Farmskins works differently: you choose the desired item yourself and see the chance before starting the attempt.
How Skin Upgrade Works on Farmskins

Upgrading skins on Farmskins is simple. The mechanic is designed for situations where a player has accumulated cheap, duplicate, or simply unwanted items that they do not want to keep in their inventory. Instead of opening regular cases, you can try to exchange those skins for one more valuable item.
The process looks like this:
Log in to Farmskins and click the Upgrade section at the top of the page.
Select one item or several items from your inventory that you want to use for the upgrade. You can choose up to 6 skins in one attempt. You can also add money or bonus points - the total value of the selected items and funds will be shown on the screen.
Then choose an item from the Farmskins inventory that you want to receive if the upgrade is successful. Its value will also be displayed in advance.
Click the Upgrade button and confirm the attempt.
If the upgrade is successful, your selected skins will be exchanged for the item you chose from the Farmskins inventory. If the attempt fails, the site may give you a gift.
This format is convenient because the player chooses the desired item in advance and sees the success chance before confirming the upgrade.
How Upgrade Odds Are Calculated
The chance of success depends on the difference between the value of your items and the price of the target skin. The closer your upgrade value is to the price of the selected item, the higher the chance. The more expensive the target item is, the lower the probability of success.
A simple example:
a $10 skin → a $15 target = higher chance;
a $10 skin → a $50 target = lower chance;
a $10 skin → a $300 knife = very low chance.
If you add several skins and bonus points, the total value of the attempt increases. This can raise the upgrade chance or allow you to choose a more expensive item.
Strategy: How to Use Skin Upgrade
Skin Upgrade is best used when you have unwanted or cheap items that you do not want to keep in your inventory. Instead of holding several small skins, you can try to exchange them for one more noticeable item. You can also try to pull a specific skin you want by using items you do not need.
Before upgrading, it is worth checking:
the price of your starting skins;
the price of the target item;
the success chance;
the option to add bonus points;
the conditions for receiving the item.
You should not use Upgrade emotionally. The most common mistake is trying to win back a lost item with an even riskier attempt. It is better to set a budget in advance and choose targets that actually fit your inventory.

When Should You Use Skin Upgrade?
Upgrade on Farmskins is especially useful in three cases.
The first case is when you have several cheap or duplicate skins. You can combine them into one attempt and try to receive an item with a higher value.
The second case is when you want a specific skin rather than a random case drop. In Upgrade, you choose the target yourself and see the chance in advance.
The third case is when you want to use not only skins, but also bonus points to reach the required value for an attempt.
Want to try it? Open the Upgrade section on Farmskins, select the skins you want to upgrade, choose the desired item, and check the chance before confirming the attempt.
Farmskins Premium also gives extra Upgrade features. There are three Premium levels: the first level gives +5% chance in Upgrade once per day, the second level gives +5% chance in Upgrade twice per day, and the third level gives +5% chance in Upgrade three times per day plus Daily Upgrade Armour.
You can buy Premium directly on our site in the Premium section and use these bonuses to make your upgrade attempts more flexible.
