Common Steam Trade Errors and How to Fix Them
Steam uses numbered error codes to indicate why a trade failed. Here are the ones you're most likely to encounter.
Steam Error 15 – Access Denied
Steam won't let you complete the trade because of an access issue or account restriction.
How to fix it: Check that your Steam Trade URL is correct, your inventory is public, and your account has no trading restrictions. If you're trading with someone who isn't on your friends list, ask them for a new trade link.
Steam Error 16 – Timeout
Steam took too long to process the trade. However, this doesn't always mean the trade failed. Sometimes the items have already been transferred even though Steam shows an error.
How to fix it: Check your trade history and inventory. If the items are still there, wait a few minutes and try again. Don't send another offer until you're sure the previous trade didn't go through.
Steam Error 25 – Limit Exceeded
This error appears when you've reached one of Steam's trading limits. For example, you might have too many active trade offers or not enough inventory space.
How to fix it: Cancel any unnecessary pending offers and make sure both traders have enough inventory space.
Steam Error 26 – Item Unavailable
One or more items in the trade offer are no longer available. The skin might have been sold, traded, or moved after the offer was created.
How to fix it: Check whether the items are still in your inventory and create a new trade offer.
Steam Error 28 – Already Redeemed
This error can appear when Steam considers an item transaction already completed or can't properly verify its current status.
How to fix it: Open your trade history and check the status of your latest transaction. If the items haven't been transferred, wait a little before trying again.
Steam Error 34 – Logon Session Replaced
This error sometimes appears after changing your Steam profile name or when Steam refreshes your login session.
How to fix it: Log out of Steam and sign back in. If you've recently changed your profile name, wait a few hours before attempting another trade.
Other Steam Trade Offer Error Codes
Besides the common errors, you might encounter several other codes when trading CS2 skins.
Steam Error 2 – General Failure. Steam couldn't complete the operation but didn't provide a specific reason. Waiting a few minutes and trying again may help.
Steam Error 8 – Invalid Parameter. The trade request contains incorrect data. Refresh the page, sign in again, and try creating a new offer.
Steam Error 11 – Invalid Trade State. The offer might have already been accepted, canceled, or completed. Check its status in your trade history.
Steam Error 20 – Service Unavailable. The issue may be caused by temporary Steam server problems. You'll need to wait until the service is working again.
Steam Error 24 – Insufficient Privileges. Check your account restrictions and make sure you're allowed to trade.
Steam Error 29 – Duplicate Request. Steam may reject an operation if a similar request has already been processed. Check your active offers before sending another one.
Steam Error 42 – No Match Found. Steam can't find the data needed to complete the operation. Try refreshing the page and creating a new offer.
Steam Error 50 – Session Conflict. There may be an issue with your current login session. Log out of your Steam account and sign back in.
Why Can't I Trade CS2 Skins Without an Error Code?
Sometimes Steam simply won't let you send a trade offer without showing a specific error code. In most cases, this happens because of security restrictions.
Steam Guard. If you've recently enabled the mobile authenticator, your trades may be held for up to 15 days. To avoid trade holds, the authenticator generally needs to have been active for at least 7 days.
Item Restrictions. Some CS2 skins are temporarily unavailable for trading. You can check when the restriction expires in the item's description in your Steam inventory.
Account Restrictions. Password resets, Steam Guard changes, or trade bans can temporarily prevent you from trading.
Private Inventory. If your inventory is hidden by your privacy settings, third-party trading services may not be able to access your items.
You can find more information about these restrictions on the official Steam Support page.

What to Do If Steam Trade Errors Keep Happening
If your trades keep failing, start by checking your trade history. This is especially important with Error 16, since Steam may report a failure even after the items have been successfully transferred.
Next, make sure your trade link is valid, the skins are still in your inventory, and your account doesn't have any temporary restrictions.
If everything looks fine but trade offers still won't go through, the problem may be on Steam's side. In that case, it's better to wait a while rather than repeatedly sending the same trade request.
