CS2 Player Count Has Dropped by More Than 23% Since February 2026

Counter-Strike 2 recorded another decline in its average player count in August 2026. The game averaged around 825,200 concurrent players during the month, marking its lowest figure since October 2024, according to data from Steam Charts.

The average CS2 player count fell by approximately 3.2% compared to July. The decline is even more significant when compared with February 2026, with average concurrent players dropping by more than 23%.

Despite the downward trend, CS2 still reached a peak of approximately 1.33 million concurrent players in August. February was the last month in 2026 to record an increase in the game's average player count, with the numbers declining in the following months.

The decrease comes despite Valve continuing to update Counter-Strike 2. The game's latest major update was released on July 9 and introduced Premier Season Five.

Alongside the start of the new Premier season, the developers added a blast wave effect triggered by the bomb explosion and made changes to the Active Duty map pool, with Overpass replacing Cache.

While CS2 continues to attract more than a million players at peak times, the Steam Charts statistics show a clear decline in average activity compared with the levels recorded earlier in 2026.
