CS2 Update: Rush, New Map Selection, and More
Major 4.7 GB CS2 Update Adds Rush, New Premier Map Selection and Gameplay Changes

During the night of September 23, Valve released a major Counter-Strike 2 update weighing around 4.7 GB. The patch affected nearly every major part of the game: the developers reworked map selection in Premier, added a new Rush mode, changed several gameplay mechanics, expanded crosshair settings, updated Source 2, and introduced fixes for Ancient, Cache, Mirage, and Train.
Premier
One of the main changes is the redesigned map selection system in Premier. Valve wants to give players more opportunities to end up on maps they have studied and prepared for in advance.
The process now works as follows:
the first team selects one map;
the second team selects two maps;
the first team selects one final map;
one of the four selected maps is then randomly chosen as the match map.
Rush
The game has received an entirely new fast-paced Rush mode featuring 3v3 gameplay with a player queue. Teams fight across a series of small combat arenas while gradually advancing toward the opposing team’s castle.
The set of arenas is generated randomly before each match, so the sequence of battles can change from game to game.
To win an individual round, players need to:
eliminate every player on the opposing team or wait for the timer to expire;
capture the tower afterward;
continue advancing through the next arenas until one team reaches the enemy castle and wins the match.
Gameplay
The update also introduced several noticeable changes to CS2’s core mechanics.
Players can now perform a silent reload by pressing and holding the reload button. In return, the reload takes longer.
The sound of unscoping with a sniper rifle can no longer be heard.
Bullet impact clarity and trail accuracy have been improved.
The ammo_grenade_limit_total parameter now limits not only how many grenades a player can carry, but also the total number they can purchase during a single round.
Chickens now take damage from the Zeus x27.
Settings
Valve also reworked some of the options related to crosshairs.
A separate Crosshair/Crosshairs tab has been added to the settings menu, bringing together the updated crosshair options.
In addition:
automatic crosshair scaling no longer depends on screen resolution;
new crosshair styles have been added;
the default option has been replaced with a dynamic four-sided crosshair designed to show current firing accuracy more clearly.
Engine
As part of the patch, the developers also updated the game engine code to the latest version of Source 2. Valve did not provide a detailed list of the internal changes.
Maps
Several competitive maps received targeted fixes.
Ancient — fixed holes in the world geometry in the main Long A hall. Door geometry was also corrected, along with an issue involving grenade rendering inside Jaguar.
Cache — fixed several gaps and adjusted texture overlap around the blue doors in the middle of the map.
Mirage — reinforced the scaffolding near the balcony support on the A site.
Train — closed a pixel gap between boxes on the A bombsite.
Miscellaneous
In addition to the major changes, the update includes several smaller additions and fixes.
Players who belong to Steam Community groups can now set a clan tag. It can be changed through the player profile.
Stickers can now be applied to the C4.
The Starjunk 95, Industrial Sunset Memories Music Kit is now available for purchase in the store tab.
The Music Kit is available in both standard and StatTrak versions.
Scoreboard statistics during halftime should now fully include the results of the previous round.
Fixed an issue that allowed players to avoid a cooldown after being kicked from a match.
Vitality Returns to HLTV Top 2
This was one of the most substantial CS2 patches in recent memory. Alongside technical fixes, Valve simultaneously reworked Premier, added a separate game mode, and changed mechanics that directly affect how players behave during matches.
