FaZe to Miss IEM Cologne Major – One of the Biggest Upsets in CS2

On April 5, the final participant of the IEM Cologne Major was decided — and surprisingly, FaZe Clan will not be attending.

In the decisive match of the HLC Belgrade Pro LAN event, Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s squad fell to BIG in a 1–2 series. FaZe started strong with a dominant 13:3 win on Dust2 but then lost 11:13 on Overpass and were crushed 3:13 on Anubis.

Notably, this match had no impact on BIG’s Major qualification. Led by Benjamin Bremer, the team had already secured their spot by reaching the grand final. Despite that, BIG closed out the series and eliminated FaZe from the Major race.

FaZe’s gamble to focus entirely on qualification ultimately backfired. The team skipped two days of matches at PGL Bucharest, receiving technical losses against EYEBALLERS and Wildcard. On April 6 at 16:00 MSK, FaZe will face Inner Circle in an elimination match.

This result marks a historic moment. For the first time ever, FaZe will miss a Counter-Strike Major. Since establishing their roster in 2016, the organization had attended every single Major event.

The final slot at IEM Cologne Major went to SINNERS. The Czech squad secured their place by winning BC Game Masters Championship 1, defeating G2 Esports, BetBoom Team, and BIG along the way.
