IEM to Return to the United States in 2027

IEM returns to USA with $1M CS2 event

ESL has officially confirmed that the Intel Extreme Masters series will return to the United States in 2027. The tournament will take place from April 5 to 11, although the host city has not yet been announced. This means the American scene will once again host a major international Counter-Strike 2 championship.

The future tournament will feature a $1,000,000 prize pool and 16 participating teams. Most of the invitations will be distributed through the global Valve Regional Standings: 11 teams will receive invites based on VRS. One spot each will go to teams from the North American and South American rankings, while the remaining three slots will be determined through qualifiers - two global qualifiers and one American qualifier.

The competition format has also already been revealed. In the group stage, teams will be divided into two groups of eight. Matches will be played in a double-elimination format, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the playoffs.

The final stage will feature eight teams and a full weekend schedule. Four quarterfinals will be played on Friday, followed by two semifinals on Saturday, while Sunday will feature the third-place match and the grand final.

Unlike IEM Atlanta 2026, which was held at DreamHack, ESL plans to host the next American tournament in an arena. This should make the event larger in scale and bring it closer to the format of the biggest championships in the IEM series.
