The CS2 Market Keeps Falling - Here's What's Actually Going Up

CS2 Skin Market 2026

The CS2 skin market continues to decline. Based on the latest weekly snapshot, its total market capitalization is sitting at around $6.52 billion, while the overall downturn has now continued for six consecutive weeks. Many popular items have lost value, buyers have become more cautious, and a large part of the market remains in the red.

However, total market capitalization only shows the average picture. It does not mean that absolutely every item is falling at the same time. Even now, there are CS2 skins rising in price - individual collections, knives, gloves, and weapon skins that continue to gain value.

That makes it more interesting to look not at yet another market decline, but at what is actually rising against the broader trend and why.

A Falling Market Does Not Mean Every Skin Is Falling

Imagine that out of 100 items, 80 are dropping in price, 10 are staying roughly flat, and another 10 are gaining value. The total value of the market would still decline, even though some individual items would remain relatively strong.

That is essentially what is happening in CS2 right now.

Over the past few months, a large share of tracked skins has indeed lost value. In one broad market snapshot, the median decline over several months exceeded 30%. That is a serious correction, especially after the strong growth the market experienced during previous periods.

Against that backdrop, even maintaining a stable price can already be considered a solid result. Items gaining 5-15% stand out even more clearly compared with most of the market.

Removed Collections Are Showing Growth

One of the clearest areas of strength is collections where the flow of new items has been reduced.

After Valve removed the Train 2025 Collection and Sport & Field Collection from the Armory, the market started pricing in the reduced supply. New skins are no longer entering circulation at the same rate as before, while demand for certain items remains.

As a result, the Sport & Field Collection gained around 4% over one recent week and roughly 14-15% over the month. Train 2025 also showed an increase of about 5% over seven days.

Against a market that is still trending downward, that difference is noticeable.

This does not mean that every item from a removed collection automatically becomes a good purchase. Every collection has more and less desirable skins. However, reduced supply creates a clear reason why this category may perform better than the broader market.

Premium Knives Are Holding Up Better Than Most Items

Expensive knives are also showing relative strength.

For example, certain versions of Butterfly Knife | Fade and Karambit | Fade gained around 3% over a week, while Butterfly Knife | Doppler Ruby increased by more than 4%.

At first glance, a 3-4% move may not seem particularly large. However, context matters. If most items are losing value over the same period, positive movement in a premium knife becomes much more significant.

The reason is fairly clear. Butterfly Knife, Karambit, and M9 Bayonet remain some of the most desirable knife models in CS2, while Fade, Doppler, Marble Fade, and other premium finishes continue to attract a stable audience of buyers.

That does not mean every expensive knife is currently rising. Some are still trading below their previous highs. However, the strongest combinations of knife model and finish are holding up noticeably better than many ordinary items.

Some Expensive Gloves Are Also Moving Against the Market

A similar pattern can be seen among gloves.

For example, Moto Gloves | Spearmint gained around 7-8% during one recent weekly period, while certain versions of Sport Gloves | Hedge Maze rose by more than 3%.

The glove market is much less uniform than the market for regular weapon skins. Wear, float, and the visual condition of a specific item can have a major impact on price.

Still, growth in popular models shows that buyer interest in the premium segment has not disappeared completely.

In other words, some money is not leaving the CS2 market - it is simply moving into rarer and more recognizable items.

It Is Not Just $1,000 Knives That Are Going Up

The most interesting part of the current market is the positive movement of certain regular weapon skins.

For example, in a recent weekly snapshot:

  • M4A4 | Buzz Kill gained around 8%

  • MP9 | Starlight Protector rose by roughly 7%

  • SSG 08 | Dragonfire increased by around 9%

  • FAMAS | Mecha Industries gained more than 10%

  • certain versions of AK-47 | The Empress rose by about 5%

These are not just collector items for expensive inventories. They are popular weapon skins that trade regularly and are commonly used in player loadouts.

That is why a 5-10% increase here can sometimes be more meaningful than a 200% gain in an extremely rare item with only a handful of sales.

Older Cheap Skins Can Also Suddenly Spike

Over a longer time frame, there are even more dramatic examples.

Despite the broader market decline, some older items have posted significant gains over the past few months. In certain snapshots, MP7 | Cirrus was up more than 80%, CZ75-Auto | Crimson Web gained around 60%, and M4A4 | Faded Zebra increased by more than 50%.

These movements can happen for several reasons: fewer listings, demand from Trade Up Contracts, or a sudden return of interest in an older design.

However, this is where extra caution is needed. The lower the trading volume, the easier it is for just a few sales to significantly distort the displayed price.

Why +500% Is Not Always Better Than +5%

Large percentage gains often look more impressive than they really are.

Imagine a rare skin that traded around $2 for a long time. If there are almost no listings and one copy suddenly sells for $10, market statistics could show a 400% increase. But that does not necessarily mean a stable new market has formed at the $10 level.

That is why looking for rising skins should involve more than just checking the percentage gain.

It is more important to understand:

  • how actively the item is being bought;

  • how many copies are currently listed;

  • whether the growth has continued for several weeks;

  • whether there is a clear reason behind the increase;

  • whether the skin itself remains popular with players.

That is why a stable 5-10% increase in a liquid AK, M4, or popular knife can sometimes say much more than a triple-digit gain in an item that barely trades at all.

What Is Actually Outperforming the Market Right Now

The current downturn highlights one important point: the CS2 market is no longer moving as a single unit.

Some categories continue to fall, while others are already finding buyers. Collections with limited supply, selected premium knives and gloves, and certain liquid weapon skins are currently performing better than the broader market.

This does not yet mean the market is in a full recovery. With total market capitalization at around $6.52 billion and the decline continuing for a sixth consecutive week, the overall trend remains weak.

However, periods like this make it much easier to see which items are genuinely holding onto demand.

If your inventory has accumulated a lot of inexpensive drops, you do not necessarily have to keep them as separate low-value items. Using the Upgrade feature on our website, you can combine cheaper skins and try to move into a more expensive item - for example, one from a category that is currently showing stronger performance than the overall market.
