What we know about Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
Remade from the Ground Up: What We Know About Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Now Ubisoft has made its long-rumored plans official: unlike remasters or re-releases of old titles, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a complete remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. As the publisher itself states, Black Flag has been completely redesigned from scratch using the latest iteration of Anvil engine. The launch date for the enhanced edition of the game for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC would be scheduled for July 9, 2026; the version for PC would be available at Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
It should be noted, first of all, that the fundamental task that the development team wants to complete with the help of Resynced is far from being related to the transformation of the Black Flag into RPG-style game. On many occasions, Ubisoft stated that the primary goal of the company was to develop an adventure game, the main hero of which would be Edward Kenway.

Who is making the game and why it matters
The remaster is currently being developed by Ubisoft Singapore, and Ubisoft has mentioned that developers of the original version have re-joined the development team. This information is vital because Ubisoft does not seem to be aiming for any mere business venture in terms of repackaging but rather for the project that respects the original game legacy.
From the technical point of view, it is created using the latest engine from Anvil – the line utilized in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. As Ubisoft states, the game is being developed using fully re-built graphics, ray tracing of the global illumination and reflections, new water assets, and 60 FPS on console. On PlayStation 5, Ubisoft mentions three graphics modes: Performance at 60 FPS, Fidelity at 30 FPS, and Balanced at 40 FPS in 120 Hz screen.
What will remain from the original
As far as the storyline goes, there aren’t any major changes to it as it still features Edward Kenway as the protagonist, while the location remains the same, the Caribbean Sea, with cities such as Nassau, Kingston, Havana, and cruising through the Caribbean Sea on the Jackdaw ship, fighting with others, and meeting characters from history such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Charles Vane.
In terms of style, this seems like a straight attempt to copy the version of the game that the fans of Black Flag would love – namely, the one where pirates, Assassins, and sandbox world are combined in the Caribbean Sea. Ubisoft directly describes Resynced as a faithful recreation, meaning not a total reinterpretation in spirit, but a careful reconstruction.
What has been changed in the remake
But a “faithful recreation” here does not mean preserving the mechanics of 2013 unchanged. Ubisoft has already revealed a fairly large list of new features.
The combat system is getting new finishers, a new parry mechanic, and faster combinations using the rope dart and pistol. In stealth, there will be an Observe mode as an extension of Eagle Vision, the ability to crouch anywhere on land, and the ability to dive anywhere in order to approach coastal areas and ships unnoticed. In addition, shadows and low lighting will now affect the protagonist’s visibility.
For parkour, Ubisoft has announced manual jump, side ejects, improved back ejects, and faster transitions between movements. For the naval side of the game, Ubisoft is introducing new officers for the Jackdaw, additional secondary weapons such as shrapnel barrels and 8-pounders, reworked factions, and an updated naval combat system. Kenway’s Fleet has also been redesigned and is now integrated directly into the game as a passive income system tied to rare activities and trade.
Among the more “living world” details, Ubisoft highlights dynamic weather, more complex environmental object behavior, and the fact that the environment now reacts more actively to wind, storms, and battle collisions. It sounds like an attempt to make the sea, islands, and cities not just prettier, but noticeably more physical and convincing.
New content - but with an important caveat
Ubisoft has confirmed that Resynced will include new content: additional missions, new scenes, expanded Jackdaw customization, new sea shanties for the crew, and even pets on the ship - such as a cat or a monkey. Woodkid has also contributed to the soundtrack by creating a reimagined track for Edward Kenway’s return.
But there is also a major limitation: the remake will not include multiplayer, nor will it include DLC from the original game. Ubisoft explains this by saying the team focused on a “pure” single-player story version of Black Flag. For part of the audience, this will likely be a controversial decision, because remakes are often seen as a “definitive edition,” whereas here Ubisoft is deliberately focusing on a new core campaign rather than a complete package of the old content.
Editions, price, and system requirements
The standard edition is priced in official materials at €/$59.99, the Deluxe edition at €/$69.99, and the Collector’s Edition at €/$199.99. Pre-ordering grants access to the Blackbeard’s Crimson Pack, which includes an outfit, sword, and pistol for Edward. On PC, the game will require 65 GB of SSD space, and the minimum requirements begin with a Core i7-8700K / Ryzen 5 3600 and a GTX 1660 / RX 5500 XT / Arc A580 for 1080p/30 FPS on low settings.
Why the project is getting so much attention
Interest in Resynced is not tied only to the popularity of Black Flag itself. Based on information from Reuters, Ubisoft regards the new video game as one of its biggest releases for the year 2026 amidst challenging financial times following profit warnings announced by the company in January. In essence, it is not only a matter of nostalgia for Ubisoft but whether the company can make it work by remaking one of its best-selling video games.
Where Winds Meet - A Free Game Many Have Underrated
The key takeaway for now
Once you filter through all the speculation and gossip surrounding leaks, the story becomes relatively easy to understand. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be a complete re-creation of Black Flag that is created from scratch instead of just packaging the same game. Ubisoft will ensure that the spirit of Black Flag remains in place by keeping the same protagonist and setting but, on the other hand, by completely upgrading all aspects of gameplay. At the same time, Ubisoft will be going for a fresh version of Black Flag by omitting multiplayer and previous DLC.
