Following the Counter-Strike 2 update on October 28, 2026, dataminers discovered files related to a new rifle called LAR. A weapon model, animations, and a user interface icon appeared in the game files. The weapon had previously been referenced under the M14 designation. Valve has not officially announced the rifle or provided a potential release date.

What Is Known About the LAR Rifle?

Dataminers Thour and Gabe Follower reported the discovery after examining the contents of the CS2 update.
The game files contain a model named weapon_rif_lar, along with firing, aiming, and reloading animations.
According to preliminary information, LAR is a lever-action rifle resembling a Winchester. The weapon is expected to feature individual cartridge loading.
However, the developers have not confirmed its final mechanics.
Some assets are located in the do_not_ship folder, while the game configurations lack a complete entry that would make the rifle usable.
This suggests that LAR remains an unfinished weapon under development.
What Weapon Statistics Did Dataminers Discover?
In September 2026, a weapon designated M14 appeared in the CS2 files.
Its early configuration included the following values:
Price: $4,100.
Base damage: 115.
Magazine capacity: 5 rounds.
Reserve ammunition: 5 additional rounds.
Some of these statistics matched the AWP and may have served as temporary values during testing.
On October 22, the M14 configuration was removed from the weapons.vdata file. Therefore, these values should not be considered the current statistics of LAR.
The rifle's exact characteristics, including armor penetration and aiming magnification, remain unknown.
When Will LAR Be Added to CS2?
As of October 29, the weapon is unavailable in regular and competitive matches.
Valve has not clarified whether the rifle will appear in Premier, Competitive, or other game modes.
The presence of a model and animations does not guarantee a release: the developers could modify the weapon or decide not to introduce it.
CS2 Update Introduces Big Head Modifier
What Changed in the CS2 Update?
The official October 28 patch introduced Hold and Toggle options for silent reload controls.
Valve also fixed reload audio issues, liquid rendering problems on AMD graphics cards, and demo playback bugs.
Additionally, players discovered a Big Head modifier for Casual mode, which changes a character's head size based on their kill-to-death ratio.
