Valve released a Counter-Strike 2 update on October 28, 2026, introducing an unusual Big Head modifier. How Does the Big Head Modifier Work in CS2?
The biggest surprise of the update was a new mechanic that Valve did not mention in the official patch notes.
Big Head changes the size of players' heads during a match.
The mechanic works as follows:
Kills: A player's head grows larger.
Deaths: A player's head becomes smaller.
Strong performance: Successful players become more visible targets.
Poor performance: Smaller heads make players harder to hit.
The modifier is available in Casual mode on certain maps.
Big Head is not a separate competitive game mode. It is part of a new modifier system that can change the usual rules of matches.
Valve Improves Silent Reload
Another important change was an update to the Silent Reload mechanic.
Players can now choose between two control options:
Hold: Players must hold the button to perform a silent reload.
Toggle: Players can activate silent reload and then release the button.
When using Toggle, pressing the button again cancels the silent reload and returns to the standard fast reload animation.
The developers also fixed a bug that sometimes allowed nearby players to hear the initial reload sound regardless of the selected mode.
What Bugs Were Fixed in the Update?
Valve introduced several technical improvements.
Main fixes:
Fixed an issue that caused liquids to appear black on AMD graphics cards.
Resolved audio problems when rewinding demos.
Fixed interface issues while watching match recordings.
New LAR Weapon Discovered in CS2 Files

Following the patch, dataminers discovered files related to a weapon called LAR.
According to preliminary information, it is a rifle that loads cartridges individually, resembling a Winchester.
The weapon previously appeared in leaks under the name M14.
However, Valve has not officially announced the LAR, and the discovered files are located in the do_not_ship folder, suggesting that development is unfinished.
It remains unclear when or whether the weapon will be added to the game.

When Will the Big Head Modifier Be Removed?
The modifier may be connected to Halloween, but Valve has not announced how long it will remain available.
Overall, the update not only addressed technical issues in CS2 but also introduced an unusual new element to Casual matches.
