New CS2 Update Is Out on October 23
Valve Release CS2 Update With New Map Scripting Tools

On the night of October 23, Valve released a small Counter-Strike 2 update of around 123 MB. Most of the changes focused on map scripting and tools for creators of custom modes from the Steam Workshop.
The patch does not directly affect regular matchmaking, but the developers have significantly expanded the capabilities of custom maps. Scripts can now control various match elements, the economy, timers, hostages, and the interface.

What Changed in the October 23 CS2 Update
One of the main additions is a new set of GameRules functions. These give map creators greater control over how matches are handled.
Scripts can now:
start and end warmup
get and change team scores
end a round early
check the number of rounds played
control the remaining round time
add money to teams with or without a specified reason
Valve also fixed a crash that could occur when using GameRules.AddTeamMoney without a standard reason for the money award.
Another important change concerns console variables. The new Console function set allows scripts to read convar values and modify them through Console.SetConvar. The method is not restricted by sv_cheats and runs synchronously.
More Options for Hostages and Resource Loading
The update also significantly expanded hostage-related scripting. The new CSHostage class allows scripts to track almost the entire interaction process.
Scripts can determine:
whether a player has started picking up a hostage
whether the hostage is currently being carried
whether the hostage has been rescued
which player is carrying the hostage
when the pickup started and ended
when the hostage was dropped, rescued, or killed
Valve also added Instance.Precache for preloading heavy resources. Map creators can now load required assets in advance on both the server and players’ clients, check their loading status, and free memory after they are no longer needed.
Radar, HUD, and Mapping Tool Changes
Custom radar_element objects can now be displayed in any game mode rather than only in Rush. Scripts can also detect whether a player currently has the chat window or team selection menu open.
Valve also improved error diagnostics: warnings now include JavaScript call stacks and more detailed information about invalid arguments. In addition, autocomplete for the map_workshop command was improved, and several inconsistencies in the CSTeamMoneyReason and CSWeaponAttackType enums were fixed.

“Negative Team Income” Reference Found in CS2 Files

After the patch was released, dataminer Maksim "Gabe Follower" Poletaev discovered a new localization string related to “negative team income.”
There is currently no confirmation that Valve are preparing economy changes for regular matches. Considering the contents of the update, the new string may relate exclusively to scripting tools that allow custom maps to manage team payouts on their own.
Overall, the October 23 update primarily expands the capabilities available to map creators and custom game modes rather than changing standard competitive CS2.
